Are Prophets Infallible? | Me, My Shelf, & I (Full Panel of Guest Speakers) (1 hr 57 min)
A wonderful discussion about the fact that modern day prophets are not meant to be perfect, just as prophets of the old testament and new. A prophet is the holder of all the keys of the priesthood allowing for the ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ, of salvation to be performed in our day.
How Joseph Smith was a Genius Government Organizer (20 min)
In this video, host Casey Griffiths dives into one of the most inspiring and practical elements of the restored Church of Jesus Christ—the power of councils and divinely guided Church government. The discussion highlights how councils—from the highest quorums of the Church to the smallest ward leadership meetings—create a system where revelation, unity, and inspired decision-making can flourish. Instead of relying on one individual alone, the Lord’s pattern allows multiple voices, perspectives, and spiritual insights to work together for the good of His children. Maclane brings unique insights from both his academic background and his lived faith, showing how councils strengthen leaders, families, and communities alike. Together with Casey, he outlines how this structure prevents misuse of authority, encourages collaboration, and reflects the eternal principle that “in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” The two explore real-world examples of how councils bless not only the global Church but also local wards and stakes, helping members feel supported, heard, and uplifted in their discipleship. This uplifting conversation will leave you with a greater appreciation for how the Lord organizes His Church today. Whether you’re curious about how decisions are made in a worldwide church of millions, or you’re seeking to strengthen the role of councils in your own family and callings, Casey Griffiths and Maclane Heward provide inspiring perspectives that will deepen your faith. Watch to discover how the principle of councils is one of the Church’s greatest strengths in guiding God’s children safely through the complexities of modern life.
LDS historian: Be ready, the Church is changing (50 min)
A conversation with Ben Spackman, a LDS Church historian, on how prophets receive revelation, how they are God’s mouthpiece and are still mortal fallible men at the same time. Wonderful look at how God allows his church to be guided and influenced by mortals who do exercise their agency.
Blacks & The Priesthood vs. Prophetic Infallibility - Can Prophets Lead the Church Astray?
An in-depth discussion about how prophets can both inspired leaders of God’s church and fallible men influenced by their surrounding, culture and pressures of the day. You can be both a prophet called of God and be a mortal, mistake prone person at the same time.
Why Latter-day Saints Believe Brigham Young is a Prophet
Casey Griffith explores the history of Brigham Young and how the faithful can better understand Brigham Young, Joseph Smith’s successor. How to employee the gospel of Jesus Christ as we try to fairly understand and judge those who have represented Jesus Christ as the head of his church like Peter of old. As Peter often failed, so did Brigham and both were still the prophets Christ chose in their time period to lead his Church.
Can Eternal Truth Be Altered? Dealing With Change In The “Mormon” Church (1 hr)
Can Doctrine Change? Has doctrine ever changed? If a doctrine is true… why would it change? If we say a doctrine can change, does that mean we don’t think that doctrine is true? What do we mean when say something is doctrine? A very good presentation on ongoing revelation from God to his fallible prophets who have been asked to lead God’s through the lens of their understanding as mortal men. God will protect the concept of free will at all costs, even at the top of this church leadership.
“I don’t need my prophets to be perfect, I just need them to hold the keys of the priesthood of Jesus Christ and do their best to lead us to Him!”
“Prophets are men and sometimes they make mistakes. Sometimes they err in Doctrine.”
-Bruce R. McConkie
“Over the years I've done a lot of deep digging around the history of the LDS Church and have come to the conclusion that the church is a wonderful, living, growing body, forever improving itself, and lead by the mouth piece of the Lord. The church is lead by Prophets as flawed and imperfect as me, providing a reasonable standard and a bar that I can see myself achieving.
I'm eternally grateful that the church's history has lots of complicated and deep flaws, it makes it feel like I'm right at home in my own story.
The church's history really couldn't be any other way as this is the way it's always been since Adam. Mortal men have always been called by God to lead his church all while exercising their own agency and being allowed to see things through their own lens and world view. It appears that God trusts his Son, Jesus Christ and his Atonement to be big and powerful enough to cover all the issues that inevitably will and have come about as his church is guided by these imperfect people.
Give me a church led by a prophet holding the keys of the priesthood and eternal salvation along with his many flaws, sins and mistakes. These are my people.”
Dan Preece
When God makes a prophet, he does not unmake the man.
